If you want even more inspiration for last-minute Halloween costumes, read Part One of Need Halloween Spirit in a Hurry? The Best Last-Minute Costumes Are Here, to get even more ideas for fast, easy and affordable costumes.

All About the Children
Halloween is really about children having fun, and being able to dress up in silly costumes. Who doesn't remember running around getting as much free candy as possible, while trying not to smear our face paint? With a little bit of creativity and a few alterations, everyday items can become outlandish attire that will capture the imagination of children and adults, alike. The website Parenting.com has amazing ideas for children's costumes that are cute and quick, like:
  • Bubble bath: Balloons, an old inflatable bathtub and suspenders make an amazing costume
  • Snowball: An old blue sweater is transformed with a hot glue gun and white Styrofoam balls
  • Rainbow Connection: Every rainbow outfit in the closet is tossed together for this look
  • The Sun: An old yellow sweat shirt becomes radiant with felt and pipe cleaners
If your kids are a bit older and want to explore the scary side of Halloween, these costumes are easy and fast to throw together, but may require a bit of mom's make-up expertise. Raid your closets and pantries for:
  • Zombies: Flour on the face and mom's lipstick for blood with torn and dirty old clothes for the full effect.
  • Mummy: Rub dirt over strips of white muslim fabric pinned to brown or black clothes, and ask for green eyeshadow for a deathly pallor.
  • Ghoul: Eyeliner and lipliner is great for drawing scary scars on young faces. Dress in black to accentuate the make up.
  • Vampire: Pale liquid foundation goes a long way, and dab lipstick around the mouth as if they freshly feasted.
Can't Forget the Pets
Our furry friends should get to join in on the festivities, too. Your best friend can become anything for Halloween, including one of the many characters in the Star Wars universe. That's right; the crafty-conscious blog Craftzine has a do-it-yourself tutorial for Princess Leia, Ewoks and Darth Vader dog costumes. Animal Planet also has some quick ideas for homemade costumes that include:
  • Skunk: Take a black t-shirt and paint a white line down the center, then fit it to their size.
  • Skeleton: This also requires a black t-shirt and paint, just look online for a skeletal diagram.
  • Flower: A soft stretchy headband, some glue and craft flower petals creates a cute costume.
Remember, you want your pets to look cute not uncomfortable. Make sure their breathing is not restricted and that they have free movement of their legs and ears for a happy, healthy Halloween.
