Can't get enough thrify tricks to save for your holiday shopping? Check out Part Two of The Holidays are Upon Us: Our Top 10 Money Saving Tips for the Perfect Gifts from American Van Lines.

Invest in Your Career Skills
With so many things around us in a constant state of change, it's always necessary to continue to evaluate your career skills and update them. If you're trying to save money of course, this may not be the time to do something like go back to school to learn them. Think of things you can do that might help you in your career that don't cost much. This could mean taking a free computer tutorial online or at your local university. Check with the human resources department where you work. They often have things like free workshops or lectures to better improve the skills of their employees. This will cost you nothing and may even get you a raise in the process.

Tap Into Craigslist
Craigslist is an excellent online tool that can help you pinch pennies and even make some money. People looking for some extra cash can post items they no longer need or want on the site for others to snatch up. Take a photo of the item, write a short description and watch your e-mail account for interest in your item. Also look for things like research studies and surveys that offer cash for your time. These can often take anywhere from a few hours to a day but can pay anywhere from 50 to hundreds of dollars depending on the company or the study.

Want to Save on Bills? Just Ask!
Although things like coupons and discounts can help, one of the most effective ways to save money on your monthly bills is just by asking! Be persistent and call the companies that supply your Internet package, cable, household insurance and even electricity. Talk to them and inquire about any available deals or services that may haven't been advertised or you may not know about. Just remember to be patient, kind and understanding, even if there isn't. A positive attitude, however, can get you a few perks when speaking to a representative over the phone. Try it and reap the rewards on your bills each month!
